Middle/High School Physical & Health Education 初/高中体育健康教育
At our IB World School, the MYP Physical and Health Education (PHE) course not only focuses on physical activity and well-being, students also learn physical and health-related knowledge, such as nutrition, lifestyle, and components of fitness. At CISB, Larissa is our PHE department head, and she took the time to explain to us the significance of MYP PHE course for CISB students.

My name is Larissa Young. I teach MYP Physical and Health Education and coach U14 and U19 Girls Football at CISB. Shawn Mackenzie, Andrew Baldwin, Shane Charnas, Zachary Wittmus and myself make up the middle-high school Physical and Health Education Department.

We use the IBO PHE Guide and the New Brunswick PE and Health Curriculums. We develop a continuum of knowledge, skills, and strategies throughout the grades to build and prepare them for lifelong wellness. This process is started by choosing a Global Context and Key and Related Concepts that will drive the inquiry for the unit. We hope to prepare and promote a continuation of the program through DP Sports, Exercise, and Health Science and to encourage further education in sports fitness and health.
Our athletic program needs, our student interests, and what is current in PHE are also taken into consideration. We often consult with our school counsellor, Monika Howes, when collecting resources for our health topics.
In SEHS course content is arranged to support students through their Internal Assessment and allow a broad introduction of the different aspects of sports science.

A good PHE teacher should embody the Learner Profile, while being able to be adaptable, approachable, and positively promoting wellness through sport, fitness, and health.

In PHE, we primarily focus on active learning experiences through physical activities done independently and collaboratively. Students are provided opportunity to participate in a variety of sport, fitness, performance, and health activities. Students are provided opportunities to experience tasks focused on real life issues, where they apply their knowledge and demonstrate their understanding to make informed decisions and solve issues.
In SEHS classes are led through a mixture of group work, group research, investigations, creative work and practical application.
Students are not just summatively and formatively assessed on their ability to perform the skills and movement concepts of PHE, but also in their ability to demonstrate and apply their knowledge and understanding of course content, their ability to create goals and plans to improve their performance, and their ability to reflect on their interpersonal skills, the effectiveness of their plans, and their overall performance. Students, when appropriate, have the opportunity to have voice in the format of their assessments.

In SEHS students are formatively assessed every unit with a summative assessment every two units. Summative assessments allow for a statistical representation of an IB paper 1 and 2 exam. Students design an investigation in Year 12, this a summative assessment that is worth 25% of their overall grade.

Shawn Mackenzie is the Athletic Director at CISB. Athletics at CISB are a crucial part of our school. The Bobcat Moto of WE over ME represents everything it means to be a Bobcat and aligns nicely with the Bobcat mission of further developing student athletes cognitively, socially and physically to open the athlete up to countless opportunities in life and Sport.
Shawn Mackenzie是CISB运动队总监,校运动队对我校是十分重要的。我们的口号是”We Over Me”, 它代表了我校Bobcat的精神,运动员团结,克服困难,拼搏和坚持不懈的运动神。
Some of our 117 athletes competed in either the U14 or U19 ISAC and ACAMIS leagues in Football, Cross Country, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, and Track and Field. They had an amazing year in every sport! Way To Go Bobcats!
