高 考

This year 9.15 million students will sit the national college entrance exam, or gaokao, with an expected average admission rate of 75 percent, the Ministry of Education said.  

教育部称，今年将有915万学生参加高考，平均录取率预计为75%。

讲解：the national college entrance exam即指高考，有时也可说成gaokao，高考状元可以说成top gaokao scorers，top scorer是指得分最高的考生。文中的average admission rate是指平均录取率。

考试作弊 cheat in the exam，准考证号 exam registration numbers，自主招生 independent recruitment，录取分数线 enrollment mark。

高考生源

人口出生率下降、接受素质教育存在困难、以及出国留学门槛降低等因素导致我国高校生源不断减少。

A number of factors, including a declining birth rate, difficulties in obtaining quality education, and easier access to overseas universities, have combined to drain the student pool of Chinese universities.

讲解：student pool指的是高考“生源”，pool在这里是“备用人员”的统称，比如pool of applicants（应聘人才库）、male/female pool（男/女生源）。Pool还常用来指“共用的资源或资金”，比如gene pool（基因库）、forex reserve pool（外汇储备库）、talent pool（人才库）等等。

高考移民 NCEE migrant 

The term 'NCEE migrant' refers to students who covertly leave their hometowns and immigrate to other places a few days before the NCEE in order to get bonus points or be in a less competitive environment. When found out, they are penalized for undermining the fairness of the NCEE.

"高考移民"是指基于获取加分和规避竞争等目的，高考前从就学地点迁往其它地点报名参加考试的学生，这些人因破坏高考的公平性，成绩往往不被认可。

高考保姆 Gaokao nanny 

现在有一种家政服务，也悄悄和高考攀上了关系，这就是“高考保姆”。

Nanny是指保姆，常见的保姆服务类型有live in nanny（住家保姆）、live out nanny（非住家保姆）、nanny share（几户住户共享一个保姆）、以及maternity matron（月嫂）等。保姆是domestic service（家政服务）的一种，家政服务公司可以用domestic help firms来表达。

在北京，高考保姆是按日计酬的，平均一天300元。

平均录取率

More than 9 million of China's students are currently taking the world's largest standardized college entrance test.

根据教育部数据显示，今年的高考平均录取率是72.3%。

文中出现的“average college enrollment rate”就是“平均录取率”的意思，“enrollment”是指“录取”，"examination venue”是指“考试地点”，“key universities”是指“重点大学”。

异地高考

More Chinese provinces and municipalities have announced education reforms that would allow children of migrant workers to enter senior high schools and sitcollege entrance exams locally.

多省市公布教育改革方案，允许外来务工人员子女在当地就读高中并参加高考。

“异地高考”就是指children of migrant workers（外来务工人员子女）在他们父母工作的城市sit college entrance exams（参加高考），这个政策也称为college matriculation policy for migrant children，matriculation指“大学入学考试，录取入学”。

因为受household registration system（户籍登记制度）的限制，很多外来务工者的子女或者成为left-behind generation（留守一代），在老家生活；或者只能在父母工作的城市接受9年compulsory education（义务教育），到了senior high school（高中）阶段就必须回到户籍所在地就读。该政策的出台可以让这些孩子与城里还是享受equal opportunity foreducation（同等教育机会），有利于促进fair education（教育公平）。

The Ministry of Education has vowed to fight anycheating in the national college entrance exams that will begin on Friday.

高考将于本周五举行，教育部表示对任何高考舞弊行为都将予以打击。

Students will take the exams in standardexamination rooms that have been equipped with electronic cameras and othervideo monitoring equipment this year, the ministry said in a statement onWednesday.

教育部发言人周三说，今年，考生将在标准化考场参加考试，考场配备电子摄像头和其他视频监控设备。

The ministry urged all the students that will takepart in the exams to be honest during the tests.

教育部敦促所有高考考生诚信赴考。

高考模式

我国即将出台方案，实现两类人才、两种模式高考。第一种高考模式是技术技能人才的高考，考试内容为技能加文化知识；第二种高考模式就是现在的高考，即学术型人才的高考。

Lu Xin, vice-minister of education, said China will combine the current vocational training system with academic higher educationand establish different models for each in the National College Entrance Examination, or gaokao.

教育部副部长鲁昕表示，我国拟将现行的职业教育体系和学术性高等教育相结合，分别建立不同的高考模式。

我国即将出台的两种高考模式（models of National CollegeEntrance Examination）分别为技术技能人才的高考（exam for technicallyinclined students）和学术型人才的高考（exam for academic students）。前者考察学生的技能（technical skills）和文化知识（textbook knowledge），后者与现行高考考察方式一致。

“打点滴”备战高考

临近6月，高考进入倒计时，最近网上疯传湖北某中学高考生集体打点滴注射氨基酸来补充营养。专家提醒，备战高考，氨基酸并非“灵丹妙药”，过量补充有害无益。

More than 30 students, some sitting and continuing to study – others standing – were captured on film injected with intravenous drips of amino acid hanging from the classroom of Xiaogan No 1 High School inXiaogan city, Central China's Hubei province during an evening study session.

教室半空中挂着很多吊瓶，有30多名学生在打点滴注射氨基酸，这些学生有的还在坐着学习，有的站着。

injectedwith intravenous drip就是“打点滴”，是静脉输液（intravenous injection）的俗称，是指将液体、电解质或血液由静脉注入，“点滴”也叫IV drips。这张“边上自习边打点滴”的图片最近在网上go viral（疯传），很多网友感叹备战National College Entrance Exam（高考）压力山大。

注射amino acid（氨基酸），是为了提高energy level（体能）。平常我们去医院输液，大多是saline（盐水）或是glucose（葡萄糖），盐水用于补充身体所需的水分和盐分，葡萄糖用于balance electrolytes（平衡电解质）。

其他

大学可以不依高考成绩，而按其它与学业成绩无关的准则来收生。

偏科 unbalance between arts andscience subjects；

从考试结果看得出你偏科。这可不是好兆头，必须纠正,不然高考会有麻烦。

Your tests show you did much better in some coursesthan in others. It’s not good sign. You should change it by keeping a balancebetween both, or there be trouble when it’s time to take college entranceexaminations.

片面追求升学率 attach undue importance to the ratio of high-school graduates rolled byuniversities; place undue emphasis on the proportion of students who move tohigher-level schools
