课程内容与领域


MAUS的课程整体类似博士学位的指导方式,教学分为四种形式的组合:1)One to one supervision一对一指导,2)Seminars & classes研讨会与课程、3)Lectures讲座、4)Posters and Presentations项目展示与评讲。其中One to one supervision会根据学生最初提交的研究提案与研究兴趣匹配一位方向合适的导师讨论阅读材料、论文写作进度以及研究方向的调整和细化。整体涉及的领域分为两个方向:1)一个是偏技术角度关注建筑、城市的可持续性问题和环境设计,2)另一方向是侧重人文社科角度关注建筑和城市的社会政治和文化背景。学生可以同时参与两个方向的研究,或者选择其中之一进行深入。


方向1. Sustainability and Environmental Design | 可持续性与环境设计

课程产出与继续博士学位


文章产出-Essay & Thesis

Two essays (or one essay and one equivalent coursework) of 3,000–5,000 words and a dissertation proposal of 1,500–3,000 words. The dissertation (thesis) of not more than 20,000 words.


继续博士学位-Continuing:

项目结束后,学生将获得继续攻读博士学位所需的研究技能。希望继续申请博士学位的MAUS硕士学生,总分必须达到 70分(英制分数),且需要匹配合适的博导,并且通过研究提案。


By the end of the programme, students will have acquired the type of research training required to carry on to the Ph.D. MPhil in Architecture and Urban Studies students wishing to apply for a Ph.D. must achieve an overall total score of at least 70. Continuation is also subject to Faculty approval of the proposed research proposal, and the availability of an appropriate supervisor.

Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK High II.i Honours Degree(英制分数)

Bachelor’s from a Prestigious University with an overall grade of 85% or GPA 3.5/4.0 Or, Bachelor’s from a Good University with an overall grade of 88% or GPA 3.7/4.0 Or, Bachelor's from other recognized institution with an overall grade of 90% or GPA 3.9/4.0


语言成绩要求 | Language Requirement

The University requires all applicants to demonstrate competence in the English language at a very high level before they begin their proposed course of study. Adherence to this requirement is strict, especially for candidates on one-year courses. You must be able to demonstrate that you are able to communicate in English at a level and in an idiom suitable to the subject.

The Research Proposal should be between 1,000 - 1,500 words and consist of a question and a hypothesis, a literature review, a statement on method, and key references.

6)论文范例 | Sample of work
This could be an essay from your undergraduate course, a chapter from your undergraduate dissertation, or any piece of writing that demonstrates your ability of research or familiarity with your area of interest.

This MPhil is not a taught programme. Instead, it admits those applicants who meet the academic admissions criteria and whose research interests match those of an available member of the academic staff who is willing to act as the student's supervisor.(需要学生的研究兴趣与导师的研究兴趣相符合)Because of the importance of the supervision system, we strongly encourage applicants to propose at least one supervisor and to frame their research proposal around their supervisor's research area. Supervisors usually take between one and three MPhil students per year.(根据导师的方向制定研究计划,每位导师平均每年招收1-3位Mphil硕士生)

项目背景与领域


In the UK moves to devolve government and decision-making to the regional and local levels are generating an increased requirement for well-trained professionals who are capable of providing the knowledge and analytical skills required. Across Europe increased economic and monetary union is emphasizing the need for member states to consider how those involved in urban and regional government can tackle the spatial disparities in economic growth and development (经济增长和发展中的空间差异) that have been such an entrenched feature of the last 20 years.
 In the Far East and North America, a similar level of interest is being shown in how governments can best ensure more geographical balance in development (政府规划决策与地域平衡). The design and implementation of spatial policies to manage the process of growth requires professionals with a multidisciplinary skill base and an international perspective on best practices.

学习产出-Learning Outcomes:

—了解导致区域增长和发展差异的因素,了解区域增长不平衡对资源管理、土地利用和环境的影响

Understand the factors that lead to variations in regional growth and development and understand the consequences of regional imbalances in growth for resource management, land use, and the environment.

—评估管理区域增长的政策干预范围,并确定经济、社会和制度因素带来的机会和限制

Enable candidates to assess the scope for policy intervention to manage regional growth and identify the opportunities and constraints imposed by economic, social, and institutional factors.

—设计高效和有效的政策来管理区域层面的增长,包括增强正在经历相对下降的区域的增长前景,并减轻对快速扩张的区域系统的不利影响等

Design efficient and effective policies to manage growth at the regional level including enhancing the growth prospects of those regions that are currently experiencing relative decline and attenuating the adverse consequences of adverse growth on those regional systems that are expanding rapidly.

Understand how best to implement growth and regeneration policies, including planning and land-use policies.

文章产出-Essay & Thesis:

A dissertation of 10,000 to 12,000 words. As part of the dissertation module, students also submit an assessed dissertation proposal before submission of their final dissertation. Assessment of subject modules varies and includes written examinations, essays, individual and group project work.


继续博士学位-Continuing:

项目结束后,如果学生希望可以继续攻读博士学位,申请审批将取决于三个标准:1)博导是否有招收博士的名额/或者是否有计划招收博士,2)研究提案的审批,3)硕士总成绩和论文成绩达到了最低分数的要求。


MPhil candidates wishing to pursue a Ph.D. with the Department may apply to continue as a Graduate Student via the Board of Graduate Studies.  Each application is considered carefully by the Department and by the Degree Committee. Approval of an application will depend on three criteria: 1)Availability of a supervisor, 2)The approval by the Degree Committee of a research proposal, 3)the achievement of a minimum overall mark and minimum dissertation mark in the MPhil examination as prescribed by the Degree Committee.
