First, thank you all for coming to my OPENSTUDIO, taking this long way, I am so happy to see you all. Thank you so much. So, I had this wonderful chance to stay here for 2months at the gallery led by Celine and supported by all the gallery staff (Anna, Bohan ...)

Last year I stayed in Shanghai for 5months at another residency. So I already started looking into Chinese culture and experienced a bit of Chinese culture. So, I already had some ideas about it.

But last year, when I stayed in Shanghai, I did not make a big project. I also stayed one month in Beijing. There, I made a small installation reflecting the city Shanghai and I also did some photo documentation.

So this year, when I came to this place, I found it to be very different from the place I was staying last year, at the bund. Here it is a place a bit closer to the rural area, but it is still the city of Shanghai. Which is very good for me, because in general I look into Post Nature in my art, and this area is really very interesting in this aspect.

So I started with a documentation of what I found - looking into the new built areas, the torn down areas and also the wild, agricultural patches cultivated by the people living there.

Like three years ago, I started looking into landscape and our concepts of nature. These concepts are really fragmentary - we have different elements of understanding and ideas about nature, which we kind of put together. So, this is what I did here - I looked into these different elements and produced tiles that could be assembled. They are highly artificial, of course, in terms of the material and also in terms of the construction. This way I could assemble my own landscapes.

For example, the grass patches over there: there is actually a real life example that I found in this area. They have these real grass patches and people kind of assemble them to create landscape. And this is actually the idea for me - to cut them in square tiles and put everything together.

What I also found, are these wild patches of agricultural areas with a lot of fences – like on the curtain here. I took these photographs of them. People seem to just put them up somewhere. They are not really keeping anything away. I don’t know what they are for, for me they are more like sculptures.

So I collected quite a lot of them. I got rid of the green stuff and just chose the most beautiful of them (fences) to print on the curtain. And I wanted it to be see-through and floating in the room. I wanted to hang it like a barrier, but still just like an idea of these more organically constructed things.

I collected a lot of data, ideas and thoughts and stories I found, basically. So some of them, they grow into objects - some of them they don’t. Like the sparrow over there. It’s called “monument for the unknown sparrow”…..

首先，非常感谢大家远道而来，我非常高兴见到大家。我能有这次驻地的机会要感谢工作室画廊的邀请同时也感谢画廊所有工作人员对我这次项目极大的支持 (Anna安娜, Bohan江博涵...)。

其实在这里的工作要追溯到去年我在上海的驻地。去年我在上海待了五个月的时间，其实我已经开始了对于中国文化的考察和研究。所以有些想法其实是从那个时候就开始了的。

但是去年在上海的驻地，我只是做了一个小小的项目，其中我也去了北京，对北京也有不少文化上感受，在那里我完成了一个小的装置作品和一些摄影的纪录。

这次的驻地对我而言就比较特别，尤其是这次驻地空间的位置和上次的非常不同，上次我在外滩，可是这次更接近上海的近郊，有很多绿色，甚至可以看到还有农民。但这里又是在上海，所以对我而言就太好了，因为我的工作内容一直以来都和“后自然”这个主题相关，而这个区域对于我的研究（工作）领域来说非常有趣。

所以，我刚开始驻地时是从摄影记录开始的。我开始在驻地空间周围寻找令我感兴趣的现象，在这里，我找了新建的区域，也有被拆迁的现场，同时还有很多农民自建的小农田，就是还住在这里的原来的农民自己家门前自己围建的小农田。

大概从三年前，我就开始了对于风景这个概念的研究，我发现我们观念里的自然变得越来越碎片化，我们对于自然的理解和认识变成了一个个不同的元素符号，而我试图找到它们并将其整合呈现出来。所以，我在这里的时间就是围绕这个工作展开的。我使用的都是非常人工的材料。

比如我制作了这些像瓷砖一样，一块块的草皮，它们其实是我在这里发现的真实的场景，这里的人们用一块块的成品草皮来美化河岸，其实这也是给我灵感的来源。我才想到把它们制作成一块块方形的像瓷砖一样可以拼合的形状。最后以这样的方式呈现。

我在寻找素材的的过程中，发现了很多这里的人自己为起来的各种篱笆，就像你们眼前看到的窗帘，我放了四张我采集的照片，照片里面的篱笆就是人们自己建的，这些篱笆看起来甚至不是为了防止别人走进去，我完全不明白他们为什么建这样的篱笆，对我而言这些篱笆看起来倒是更像雕塑。

所以，我收集了很多这样的素材，我在处理图像的时候只保留了篱笆的造型，去掉了里面的绿色部分。然后我挑选了我觉得最好看的几处篱笆，把它们放到一起然后打印到这块布上面。同时，我希望这块布是可以通透的，可以漂浮在这个空间当中。我选择这样来悬挂它，也是希望它有点像一进门的一个障碍物（屏风）。

基本上我会收集大量的数据，想法，理论和故事。它们中的有些会最终转化成作品中的物体，有些其实并不会。你可以看到那边的麻雀雕塑，像一个纪念碑式的麻雀雕塑…
