UNNC worker overcomes grief to fight virus

Heping Wang, apartment manager of Liberal Arts Hotel at UNNC, has already been fighting the COVID-19 virus on campus for over a month. His mother had just passed away, but he fought through this grief to devote himself to ensuring a safe campus. Heping's colleagues speak highly of his passion, energy, diligence and responsibility.

Heping's mother passed away towards the end of last year. As the only son, he should have spent the Chinese New Year holidays with his father in Quzhou, his hometown. But on the second day of the holidays, he drove over 300 km back to Ningbo to resume his post, actively participating in the fight against the virus.

"I'm very sad, but I know it's more important to secure a safe campus now," he said. "I think this is the best consolation for losing my mother. My family was very supportive. My wife told me not to worry and that she would take care of our family."

After returning to the University, Heping began to work round the clock, collecting the information of 172 families of teachers, disinfecting areas every day and eliminating all potential safety hazards. Every day, Heping checks the health of teachers on campus and informs them what to do regarding epidemic prevention.

As most of the 42 families living on campus are those of UNNC's international teachers, Heping patiently explains the local regulations and helps them to purchase daily necessities in the supermarket.

As the apartment manager, Heping has frequent contacts with international teachers. “Because it's hard to work without fluent English, so I want to learn English well," he comments modestly. He already speaks fluent English after teaching himself. For 21 years, Heping has carried an English vocabulary book in his pocket and learns new words in his spare time.

Although not talkative nor outgoing, Heping communicates easily with international students and staff. His eagerness to study encourages many and he has become friendly with many international students and staff.

Heping doesn't only give time and assistance - he also gives blood. Over the past 20 years, Heping has donated nearly 50,000 ml of blood, equivalent to exchanging the blood of 10 to 12 adults. He has been awarded local and national certificates in recognition of his valuable service to public health.

“I'm just doing what I can to make my contributions to society. If one life is saved because of my blood, that would be enough,” he says. From donating blood, taking responsibility in his work, to fighting the virus, Heping practiced his words with his actions.

从大年初二到今天，宁波诺丁汉大学校内博雅国际交流中心的“公寓管家”王和平已经在校园抗“疫”一线整整战斗了一个月。他的母亲因病重刚刚去世，作为独子的他，强忍着悲痛，主动请战终日忙碌在校园中。

了解他的同事都说，这就是他们熟悉的王和平，浑身总有那么一股积极向上的拼劲、任劳任怨的担当，一身满满的正能量！更有老师说：“有和平在，我们就很安心！”

母亲病故，

他忍痛转身返校请战投入战“疫”

年前，王和平母亲因为重病去世，作为独子的他，本应该留在衢州老家陪伴父亲过个团圆年，但是在大年初二一早，他就义无反顾自驾300多公里赶回宁波，请战投入校园战“疫”一线。

“母亲去世，我很伤心，但是我知道现在情况紧急，必须守护好校园，或许这是对母亲最好的告慰。”尽管王和平戴着口罩，但能明显看到他的黑眼圈，眼里还闪着泪光，“回来时，父亲和妻儿也都很支持我，妻子说你去吧，我会照顾好家里的。”

回到学校后，王和平就马不停蹄地开始工作：对3幢172户教师的信息逐一排查登记，做到排查全覆盖；每天对所管辖区域进行消毒处理，排查所有安全隐患。

由于留校的42户大多数都是外籍教师，王和平除了每天及时了解他们的身体状况外，一遍遍耐心地给老师们讲解，告诉他们如何在疫情期间做好防护工作。同时，他及时为老师们提供所需的服务，主动帮老师去超市采购生活用品。

大年初五，有位留校教师在门岗测量体温时有点偏高，在得知消息后，王和平每天早晚电话联系这位教师，关注老师身体健康状况，嘘寒问暖。第三天，这位教师体温恢复正常，王和平这一颗悬着的心才放了下来。

正是靠着这般细致的关心和耐心，王和平赢得了教师们的信任。“有和平在，我们很安心。”老师们对他赞不绝口。

自学英语21年，

他是大学生眼中的“英语励志哥”

作为公寓管家，王和平工作中经常要和外籍老师打交道，他都是用一口麻溜的英语自如交谈的。其实，王和平的学历并不高，自己在工作后自学的英语。

原来，当年来宁波工作时，王和平先是在一家涉外酒店工作，这段工作经历让他意识到掌握一门外语很重要，“因为工作中经常要和外国客人交流，不会说英语就很难开展工作，我就想着要好好学”。

整整21年，他一直努力自学着英语，口袋里藏着一本单词书，有空就会拿出来背一背。虽然，他并不善言辞，但为了更好地和师生们沟通，只要碰到和外籍师生有关的事情，他就会非常主动。“我就想着要学好英语，必须放大胆子和他们多接触、多交流、多沟通，时刻抱着学习的心态。”

慢慢地，他成了宁诺学子们眼中的“励志哥”，很多外籍师生还和他成了好朋友。有老师表示：“这不单单是他很好学，还因为他很热心、乐于助人，我们信任他。”

20年无偿献血近5万毫升，

他还是个献血英雄

鲜为人知的是，王和平更是一个令人尊敬的“热血好男儿”。在王和平家中，有一摞红通通证书：先后四次的“全国无偿献血奉献奖金奖”，浙江省人民政府颁发的无偿献血“之江杯”奖和无偿献血“特别奉献奖”，宁波市政府颁发的无偿献血“特别奉献奖”……

每月一次成分血（血小板），一年2次全血， 20年来，王和平累计献血近5万毫升，按照一名成年人拥有的血液量4000到5000毫升计算，王和平献血的数量相当于为10到12名成年人全身换了一次血液。

但是王和平很低调，20年的无偿献血，他都是利用自己的休息时间，从未因为献血而休假。后勤公司办公室副主任杨颖说：“在这之前我们很多人都不知道他在坚持献血，他从来没有因为献血而申请过休假。”

究竟是什么力量在支撑他？原来20年前， 20岁的他看到《抗美援朝》一书，被革命烈士忠贞不渝的爱国主义精神和视死如归的浩然正气所感染，便想到通过献血为国家做贡献。“这本书看的我直流眼泪，那时我还很年轻，想法也很简单，我就想着那就做些力所能及的事，尽自己的力量，哪怕有一个生命因为我而得到救治，这就够了”。

“疫情期间，学校人手少，工作多，等空点了我肯定会再去献血。”他表示。捐一份热血、献一片爱心、为更多生命续航助力，为抗击疫情奉献自己的一份力量，王和平用行动诠释着普通人对生命、对国家的热爱！
