什么人是好人

SECTION 51. What Makes You a Good Person

我们已经得到人身，不仅得到了，而且有幸进入持戒持藏者的行列中，或者步入了释迦牟尼佛四众眷属的行列中，

We have already obtained this human body, and as well as possessing it, we have fortunately become discipline and pitaka (Buddhist canon) upholders and members of the fourfold entourage of Buddha Shākyamuni.

所以要十分慎重。作为出家人或者佛的随行者，要做到不损害上至高级的人类、下至蝼蚁以上低级动物的身体和生命，

Therefore we should be scrupulous — as monastics or Buddha’s followers, we should avoid harming any sentient being, from the higher life forms, such as human beings, down to the lower forms, such as ants and small insects.

佛陀说过“害他非沙门”，请大家认真身体力行。

The Buddha once said: “Anyone who harms sentient beings is not a monastic.” So please apply this precept to your behavior and actions.

普遍来讲，学院常住的人，对新来的男女僧人及居士要欢迎、接待，

Generally speaking, residents in our institute should welcome and accommodate newly arrived monks, nuns, and laypeople.

以前我们一直有这样的传统。这既是人规，也是佛法。

This has been a tradition in our institute and is also what a good person or a Buddhist is supposed to do.

总之，如果是一个专门利他的人、心地善良的人，吉祥也会属于他，财富也会属于他。

In brief, a person who single-mindedly benefits others with a virtuous heart deserves auspiciousness as well as abundant wealth.

我们所说的“好人”，并不是指口才好的人，也不是指勇敢的人，因为他们中也有坏人。

By “good person,” we mean neither an eloquent person nor a brave man, because the eloquent and brave could also be bad people.

总的来说，有好心肠的人才是好人。

In general, a person with a virtuous heart is a good person.

所以，平时做到心善、行善相当关键。

Therefore it is essential for us to have virtuous hearts and engage in virtuous acts.

心善是指什么呢？

What does “virtuous heart” refer to?

就是怀有信心祈祷三宝，想让一切众生都幸福快乐，就像我自己快乐幸福一样，想到一切有情都拥有。

It is to pray to the Three Jewels with faith, to wish all sentient beings to be as happy and fortunate as oneself, to have this wish for every single sentient being.

看看你相续中生没生起这样的善心。

Examine if you have such a virtuous heart.

当然，善行比这更重要。

Obviously virtuous acts are even more important than virtuous hearts.
