SECTION 52. Keep Away from Nonvirtuous Friends
对每个人来说，交往善友是极为关要的。
As far as every individual is concerned, it is critical to relate to virtuous friends.
华智仁波切曾说过：如果交往有贪嗔痴的友伴，自己也会变成有贪嗔痴的人；
Patrul Rinpoché once remarked that if you relate to companions who have strong desire, hatred, and ignorance, you will become one of them;
如果交往有信心、悲心的友伴，自己也会变成有信心、悲心的人。
if you associate with friends who have faith and compassion, you will have faith and compassion.
所以，在没有证得一地之前，自己变成怎样，唯一靠友伴。
Before you realize the first stage of bodhisattva, it is your friends and companions that shape who you are.
不管你住在城市还是深山寺院等何处，远离恶友随时随地都很重要。
No matter where you live, in urban areas or remote mountains and monasteries, first and foremost keep away from nonvirtuous friends.
作为僧人的你，如果喜欢经商的人，与他交往，表明你也会变成商人；
As a monastic, if you like to associate with a business person, it indicates that you will become a business person;
如果喜欢读书人，与他交往，表明你也会变成读书人；
if you like to relate to people who love reading, it shows that you will become a book lover;
如果喜欢实修的人，与他交往，表明你也会变成修行人；
if you like to be with people who always meditate, it means you will become a practitioner;
如果交往恶友，那表示自己也是个恶人。
if you like to be with nonvirtuous friends, it demonstrates that you yourself are nonvirtuous.
如果你想观察别人是不是好人，那就察言观色，看他的行为举动便可知道。
To examine whether someone is a good person, observe his speech, facial expressions, and behavior and actions.
那人如果与商人、流浪者、盗贼共行共住，证明他也是个奸诈的人、行窃的人。
If he spends lots of time with business people, vagrants, or thieves, it proves that he is a dishonest person who steals as well.
很多人不是说 “某某僧人本来是个高尚的人，可他因交往一个坏朋友而完蛋了”吗？
Haven’t we heard people say that such and such a monk was an honorable person but ruined himself after associating with a bad friend?
