中止陋规
SECTION 56. Stop Unwholesome Practices
作为学修大乘佛法的我们，要尽可能杜绝那些做荤食供养的寺院陈规陋习，否则与佛教是直接抵触的。
As practitioners of the Great Vehicle Buddhism, we should do our best to stop the unwholesome tradition of offering meat to monasteries, which directly contradicts Buddhism.
在色达这个地方，依靠华智仁波切的恩德，没有这样的不好传统，据说其他地方好像有。
In Sêrtar, relying on the kindness of Patrul Rinpoché, we do not have this bad custom, but it has been said that it occurs in other places.
而且听说有些人在造佛像、佛塔时，满不在乎地将数百头牛羊交到屠夫手里，让他牵去屠宰场。
Moreover, I was told that some people unconcernedly hand over bulls and sheep to butchers by the hundreds and let them take these creatures to slaughterhouses because they need the money to build buddha statues and stupas.
如果这是真的，那就是在故意毁坏佛法。
If this truly happens, they are deliberately destroying the Buddhadharma.
我相信你们当中不会有人那样做，那样是绝对不行的。
I believe none of you here has done this. It is absolutely unacceptable.
特别值得一提的是，不要始终靠宰杀这些对人们有大恩大德的母牛来生活。
One thing needs particular attention — please, never make a living by killing cows. They have been so kind to us human beings.
这些众生其实和我们自己一模一样，也有疼痛的感受，也怕死亡。所有这些众生并不是我们的敌人。
These creatures are not different from us; they have the feeling of pain and are afraid of death, as we are. These sentient beings are not our enemies.
终生都在养着我们、护着我们的母牛，是大恩人，它们不是该杀该剁的。
Cows have fed us and protected us their entire lives, so they are our benefactors and do not deserve to be killed or chopped to death.
所以，我再三希望诸位僧人及上中下各层人士，不能害众生，尤其是绝不能大量宰杀。
Therefore I repeatedly encourage all monastics and superior, middling, and inferior people to quit harming sentient beings and never engage in large-scale slaughter.
如果是国家规定，那避免不了，可并不是那样。
It would be a different matter if slaughter had been required by the government, then it would be inevitable — but this is not the case.
谁也不会因为不杀生而活不下去，不要说大批屠杀，就是一两只也不能杀。
Nobody is going to die if other sentient beings are not killed, not to mention decimated, and to kill even a couple of sentient beings is unacceptable.
如果谁不能做到杜绝屠杀，那么今生会遭到恶运，后世还会堕到无边无际的恶趣中。
Anyone who cannot refrain from killing will undergo misfortune in this life and fall into the boundless lower realms after death.
